BTW Virtual Pods

In an effort to sharpen our instructional practices, we will conduct PD in pods. Each pod will log into a Zoom conference once a week at the assigned times. These pods will participate in book studies, group discussions, and other assigned online tasks.

Check in the BTWay!

All teachers should call the homes of the students in his/her homeroom. Be sure to let parents know your office hours and availability. If you prefer to sign up for a Google Voice number to keep from you using your personal number, please feel free to do so. The scripts are below:

If they answer:

Hi, this is ___________ from Booker T. Washington. Do you have a minute to talk? I just wanted to call and check on____________ (student’s name). How are you all doing?

While we are out, I want to encourage you to take advantage of the resources that are being offered right now.

1.    If you don’t have internet and you are in need of it, Xfinity is offering free internet for the next 60 days. You can go to www.xfinity.com/wifi to sign up.

2.    Also, we have a website where all of your child’s teachers have uploaded assignments for your convenience. This is in addition to what the district is offering. Our website is https://btwwarriorsonline.weely.com. Lessons are also being taught on the network Bounce and the SCS website if you need additional practice.

3.    The district is offering packets that you can pick up for your child at the meal distribution sites. They are also listed on the SCS website.

4.    Lastly, The RISE Foundation has several food banks, and cash assistance programs listed on their Facebook page. If you need any of those resources, they are available for you!

If you need us, or if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. You can send an email to [email protected].  We just wanted to check in and let you know that we are thinking of you all and to make sure our children are still learning. Continue to be safe, and thanks again!

Professional Development

Our first PD will give us each the opportunity to step back and look at ourselves, and see how our experiences impacts how we teach and how we interact with kids!

Our first book study will be Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. Every teacher has access to a free Audible account. A quick reference sheet is above. All login information has been emailed. Refer to the email with the subject Virtual Faculty Meeting 4-2.

Some accounts say teachers and some say students, but they all have the same access for 12 credits.
  • Teachers will need to download the assigned books on an app, it does not work properly from a desktop until it has been downloaded from the app first.

All assignments must be submitted via TEAMS. Next week's PD tasks are:
  1. April 6: ACE Test & Reflection due
  2. April 7 & 8: Story of Self due
  3. April 7 & 8: Online group discussion - log in Zoom/TEAM call
  4. April 9: Faculty Meeting
  5. April 13: Who Moved My Cheese Discussion Questions & response to TWO peers due
